{"product_id":"vintage-william-plunkett-reigate-rocking-chair-1966","title":"William Plunkett | Reigate Rocking chair 1963","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eReigate Rocking chair\u003c\/strong\u003e by \u003cstrong\u003eWilliam Plunkett\u003c\/strong\u003e, 1963.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDesigned in 1963 and awarded Council of Industrial Design Award in 1968, the Reigate rocking chair became synonymous with Plunkett's elegant and sculptural approach to furniture design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBuilding hand-made prototypes himself, Plunkett was able to refine comfort levels, the centre of gravity and to maintain a fine profile through the use of bent steel, profiled aluminium and Pirelli webbing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe design is an exercise in the reduction of mass and material, minimising the structure to its absolute least presence other than an outline.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is also a quietly extravagant design with a sweeping base to cradle the seat unit. The aluminium seat frame is profiled to take the Pirelli webbing and armrests raised on small aluminium discs to achieve further transparency.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Reigate was selected and promoted through the Design Centre in Haymarket.
