The composition of the two-tone timbers reflect the influence of De Stijl and works by Theo Van Doesberg and Gerrit Reitveld. The skeletal structure is entirely functional, with open glass panes and doors on two elevations. It is also a subtle and artistic exploration of form and space reflecting the designer’s studies during this early period of his career. The design expresses simplicity through two cases stacked at right angles.

Whilst still at the Bauhaus Breuer went on to create a series of ground-breaking tubular steel designs, including the Wassily chair, which cemented his position as one of the most important designers of the 20th Century. Breuer continued his work in the UK and later in USA, his work present in museum collections worldwide.

Beyond his furniture designs, his architecture is highly praised and influential, providing landmark buildings such at the Whitney Museum in New York.

The cabinet offered is a vintage production by Tecta, authorised by Bauhaus Archiv.

Dimensions:
80w x 80d x 165cmh
