day-675-chair
Day | 675 chair

The 675 chair forms part of a seminal series of Robin Day chair designs. Created as a progression to the trio of seats designed for the Royal Festival Hall, the 675 is considered the most successful of this family. It was designed to supersede the smaller 661 armchair used at the Festival Hall. The more generous scale and structural integrity made it immediately successful.

The 675 shares the same highly sculptural ‘floating’ plywood back and armrest as the Festival Hall group. The fine gauge stove-enamelled frame clearly defines the structure of this design, as it did throughout this range of designs, and similarly in the Reclining chair.

The longevity of the design was recognised by Tom Dixon when selected to be reproduced by Habitat in early 2000.

The chair offered is the earliest generation of this design with solid steel rod frame, welded foot plates and brass screws. Despite its success, the early chairs are extremely scarce.
The seat has been reupholstered relatively recently in dark grey wool.

Dimensions:
64w x 52d x 43/79cmh
