The frame and leg are constructed in laminated birch and together accentuate a solidity with pronounced depth to seat and back. The armchair was conceived to provide a long sitting position with comfort afforded through the deeply upholstered seat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe chair offered has the distinctive quilted covered designed by Aalto to create a level of lightness and transparency, whilst being more luxurious than the standard linen webbing available in this design and other chairs such as the stacking 611.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe wide armrests are another strong gesture towards ergonomics and are boldly wrapped in a vinyl covered cord to provide a comfortable and tactile surface.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAalto frequently used such coverings to wrap architectural elements such as columns and bannisters in cane or leather, and his floor lights also featured wrapped stands.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs with many Aalto designs the Chair 45 was considered part of a family to suit a host of needs and environments.
